![]() Task cards are always a big hit with my students, and we have quite a few different ways to use them. Was or Were Slap! is a great game, and my students really enjoy it, but it isn’t enough. When I explained the game Slap!, one of the versions I introduced, and gave away the signs and sentences for, was Was or Were Slap! (if you missed it, you can download the game under the picture). This isn’t to say I have no games to practice was vs. There could be a number of reasons for this, but I suspect the bottom line is that by the time we reach the simple past of to be in the book, most of my students already consistently use was and were correctly. However, I haven’t had nearly as many resources for practicing the simple past tense of to be, was vs. ![]() ![]() Ask any English as a second language (or additional language or foreign language…) teacher what the first thing you teach English language learners is, and 99% of them will answer, “The verb to be.” For this reason, I have a myriad of resources to teach is, am, are.
